Media Literacy: Helping Students Make Sense of their Digital World
Facilitator: Ben Sondgeroth
Tuesday, February 8th (3:30 - 4:30 p.m.)
Can your students spot fake news? Do they know how to evaluate sources for research? Are they aware of how social media works and its impact on their everyday life? Our students are immersed in more digital media than any previous generation, making media literacy skills more critical than ever. Join this session to develop your own media literacy awareness, explore resources and lesson materials, and prepare to teach key concepts to your students so they can safely access, analyze, and create digital media. This session will be interactive as you will experience lessons the way students will - rich with self-reflection, analysis, and discussion.
This workshop is geared towards grades 6-12, and will address the new Media Literacy mandate in HB0234. However, the information shared is applicable to all teachers and students!

Friday's School Celebration
Fulton Elementary School
Reading is Whaley Fun
The January Reading Incentive has begun. It has been the perfect week to curl up with a good book and read. The students will enjoy receiving a sticker and candy or erasers for their reading slip. The stickers are placed on a huge poster with an underwater scene outside each class . Our goal is to reach 100,000 minutes read outside of school. Encourage your child to become a lifelong reader.
January is the perfect month to read.

Congratulations to Autumn Howell and Grace Woodward, students at St. Mary's School in Sterling, winners of The Illinois American Water Art Contest. Check out this week's Teacher Talk featuring the student winners! @RegionalOffice47 #RegionalOffice47
