C.L.E.A.R - Collaborative Learning for Educational Achievement and Resilience Emerging from the Pandemic: How Trauma-Informed Practices can Support Recovery and Healing in Schools
Facilitators: Natalie Turner-Depue, Director, Child and Family Research Unit at Washington State University with the team from WSU CAFRU/CLEAR and Florissa Center
Tuesday, July 28th (8:00 - 3:00 p.m.) at SVCC
Trauma-informed practices in education have become increasingly necessary, and the collective trauma of the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated this need for students and staff alike. The Collaborative Learning for Educational Achievement (CLEAR) program is designed to create safe, predictable, and consistent educational environments that are sustainable for schools; through a systems change model over a 3-year period, the program aims to lessen the effects of traumatic stress and build collective resilience. Participants in this institute will: gain an overview of the impacts of traumatic stress on learning and behavior and an introduction to the CLEAR framework; hear from a panel of administrators who have implemented CLEAR in their schools about successes, challenges, and lessons learned; and engage in a working session about how to begin the process of healing in their own schools.

This two day academy is designed for individuals who are seeking initial qualification for teacher evaluation. This academy aligns to the competencies for Part 50, Section 50.420 (a-b). This training replaces the online Growth Through Learning Training.

This course will explore the role of administrators, especially principals, in high quality induction and mentoring programs. Topics will include the legal/ethical issues of mentoring, expectations for the mentors and new teachers, mentor selection, and administrative strategies that increase support for new teachers and mentors so that the growth of the new teacher is maximized. Participants will be required to complete application/dissemination activities back at their schools.
