Workplace Wednesday participants visited Sauk Valley Angus & The Best Cob. Gary Sandrock shared what Sauk Valley Angus and The Best Cob provides to our communities in products as well as potential careers. Teachers from Byron, Morrison, Rock Falls Middle School, and Sterling will be able to share the relevancy of what students are learning to future careers and potential careers for students.

Educators from the ROE47 area visited the Byron Nuclear Plant for the Workplace Wednesday professional development series. Thank you to the Women in Nuclear Science organization and the Nuclear Power Plant for hosting this visit. Teachers came away with lesson plans in Nuclear Science as well as a better understanding of careers at Byron.

BIRTH TO FIVE ILLINOIS PUBLISHES EARLY CHILDHOOD REGIONAL NEEDS ASSESSMENTS : Find Out What Families Need Across Illinois Birth to Five Illinois has published 39 Early Childhood Regional Needs Assessments, now available to both local communities and state leaders. The assessments reflect the strengths and needs in the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) service landscape at the regional level. The publication of these reports marks a major milestone for Birth to Five Illinois, the State’s equity-driven regional community system focused on understanding why families are not able to access ECEC programs and services. June has been all about preparing for the big move – packing and unpacking. It has been a tremendous job and the parent educators have really gone above and beyond to make sure that our new facility looks attractive and inviting to families. Here is a sampling of some before and after pictures. The giant pile of boxes is only a small portion of the actual number of boxes that we had to unpack into our new space. We have definitely mastered the art of making things fit!

On June 29, 2023, Governor Pritzker signed SB 2390 (now PA-103-0111) into law. It is effective immediately. The law provides an extension for the Short-Term substitute teacher application availability. The application is now available through June 30, 2028 rather than June 30, 2023. Once issued, the license is valid for five years. Educators who currently hold short-term substitute teaching licenses with an expiration date of June 30, 2023 can renew the license for a five-year period in their Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS) accounts by logging into their ELIS accounts on or after July 1, 2023 and clicking on the “Renewals” link in their Action Center. There is no fee for renewing a Short-Term substitute license. If you need any help, please email Mary Escamilla (mescamilla@roe47.org).

A special shout-out to Dreaming Tree Preschool & Lincoln Open Sesame! Dreaming Tree Preschool and Lincoln Open Sesame collected donations of baby shampoo, baby lotion, diaper cream and an assortment of other items for the upcoming community baby shower. To the children, family, and staff at Dreaming Tree Preschool and Lincoln Open Sesame, thank you for the incredible generosity.

The ROE47 office has moved! Our new location is 2214 4th Street. Parents as Teachers and Education Outreach programs are in suite C and the main office is in suite B. Our summer hours are Monday - Thursday, 8am - 4pm and closed on Friday's.

ROE 47 would like to congratulate our special friend, Jennie Janssen, Food Service Director at Sauk Valley Community College on her retirement. She has been a friend of the ROE for many years and will be missed! Jennie guaranteed professionalism and kindness and we have enjoyed working with her over the years! Enjoy your much deserved retirement, Jennie!

The Education Outreach Program held a graduation ceremony celebrating our 15 students from 2022-2023 who earned their Illinois High School Diploma. Brianna, Alex, Breanna and Mykwana were able to celebrate with their family and friends in caps and gowns as they walked across the stage. Congratulations to all!
