This week, we are featuring Deb Foust, Homeless Liaison for Area 2. When asked what is her favorite thing about working for ROE 47, Deb said “I greatly enjoy trying to make a difference in the lives of the students and families that we work with”. She enjoys working at the local church food pantry as it keeps her connected with people in the area. Deb lives in the rural community of Shannon and loves country life. She enjoys being outside and spending time with her new granddaughter. Deb is excited about attending the National Homeless Conference, which will be held in November in Atlanta.

Attention Sterling Public School Families ... Before & After Child Care

The Education Pathway program is excited to kick off another year with our area partnering schools.
This week, we are excited to feature Morrison High School.
Mrs. Jennifer Stevenson shares several of her class goals. " For the first time ever, a student is taking Introduction to Education Careers for the second time. My goal is to make this class more representative of student teaching, putting the student in a placement for a semester at a time instead of switching, and implementing a more in-depth curriculum with her regarding aspects of teaching and working with students". Great job, Mrs. Stevenson and good luck to the students at Morrison High School!

We had an awesome Virtual Workplace Wednesday during the month of July, 2021. A sincere thank you to all of the businesses and schools (SVCC, WACC, MIT, RFHS and Byron School Librarians) participating in Workplace Wednesday. The businesses and schools took valuable time out of their busy schedules to provide a valuable and memorable learning experience for teachers, counselors, and administrators from Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside Counties. We sincerely appreciate their efforts to put together this learning experience from the PowerPoints to the videos shared. The teachers, counselors, and administrators who participated in Workplace Wednesday shared their comments and appreciation for the information and knowledge gained from each of the presenters.
Rebecca Koerner shared that “The job opportunities that are available at each business and the job descriptions going along with that are very informative. I think that it is encouraging that the students can start at the businesses with only a HS diploma and then continue their education. I feel that the presenters gave us a great idea what the students are lacking with the soft skills and get us teachers to start thinking on how to improve those skills so that they are successful.”
We appreciate the following businesses and school being involved in the education of our teachers who ultimately share their knowledge with their students.
Many of the participants expressed appreciation for learning more about programs WACC, SVCC, and MIT and the pathways provided for their students in high school and postsecondary leading to a good paying job in Criminal Justice, Multi-craft Manufacturing, Health, Welding/Manufacturing, Auto Technology, Building Trades, CEO, Computer Technology, Early Childhood Education, Digital Media Arts, Culinary Arts and many more. It was information they can use and share with students.

Welcome 'Back to School' from our friends at ROE 47!

The Education Pathway program is excited to kick off another year with our area partnering schools. Last year, 4 area high school students earned an endorsement in the education pathway; getting one step closer to earning a college degree in education!
With the recent shortage of educators, this work has proven to be vital in our area.
This year, the pathway program will provide opportunities for more students to work towards earning endorsements in education. With increased community awareness of the pathway program, families can stay informed on how to best support their student while pursuing an education endorsement.
For more information about the Education Pathway program, contact your school counselor or Chanda McDonnellat cmcdonnell@roe47.org, Heather Waninger at hwaninger@roe47.org, or Stacey Dinges at sdinges@roe47.org.

Thank you to the Rotary Club in Oregon for allowing Diana Merdian, Family Education and Support Services Coordinator (Nexus) and Chris Tennyson, Regional Superintendent, to speak about the Nexus program.
Nexus aims to improve the family unit as a whole, thus improving the quality of life of all family members. In addition, the supports Nexus provides to school district staff, and the adults within the family will improve the resiliency within the family and the broader community.
