The Career Pathway Video Series was created through the CTE Education Grant that is provided through a partnership between Sauk Valley Community College and Lee-Ogle-Whiteside Regional Office Education #47. With the help of Grot Imaging Studio, area professionals were interviewed in their career field to provide students with a real-world understanding of their professional journey.
In these videos, participants address questions that will give students a better understanding of the importance of traditional coursework and the transition to post secondary options.

Chanda McDonnell works as a Pathway Navigator with the CCR Pathway Grant.
Chanda enjoys working with area schools to build an education pathway to help students become educators. In her free time, she likes to work on puzzles and sewing and also enjoys karaoke night with her husband.
Chanda has been married to her husband, Sean, for twenty-four years. They have three children; Mary, Liam and Seamus.
Chanda says she has taken an untraditional route to my college education. “I graduated with my bachelor's in education in 2007. I taught for thirteen years, then went back to school to earn my master's in administrative leadership in May of 2020. I began my career at the ROE 47 in the summer of 2020.”
This year Chanda is looking forward to building stronger relationships with the schools she works with and helping them build a successful pathway.

Friday' s Celebration
This Thanksgiving season with the help of First Student Bus Company (Rock Falls), Trinity United Methodist Church (Sterling), and 1st United Methodist Church (Sterling FISH). We were able to feed 320 individuals over the three county area. Some of the baskets included a turkey and all the "fixings" for a Thanksgiving dinner, including a pumpkin pie. Some baskets included small individual-sized assorted cereals for kids to snack on or have for breakfast over the holiday weekend. This work was a great Regional Office of Education effort with the help of our community agencies.

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released spring 2021 school- and district-level assessment data from the SAT and Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). The data highlights school districts statewide that overcame the odds and maintained or even boosted the number of students meeting standards during an extremely challenging year.
East Coloma-Nelson Consolidated Elementary School District 20, a Tier 2 district in the Northwest region, saw a 17.1 percent increase in third-grade students meeting or exceeding standards on IAR English language arts. The district reduced class sizes to allow for more one-on-one instruction and intervention for both in-person and remote students. The district attributes its success in part to communication with families being at an all-time high, including home visits if remote students did not log on for class.
