ROE #47 coordinates the delivery of the regional spelling bee each February. Each school with fifth through eighth grade students can send a school champion to compete in the Regional Bee. The winner of this regional bee competes in Washington, D.C., in the National Spelling Bee in May. Sponsors cover the expenses of the trip for the winner and one adult.

Winners of elementary school contests, grades 5 through 8, in
Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside Counties will be competing for the regional
championship; the winner will compete in the Scripps National Spelling
Bee.

2nd Place: Jackson Melton, 7th Grade, PLT Middle School
3rd Place: Jake Andrzejewski, 8th Grade, East Coloma-Nelson Elementary
